چکیده

Hand implantation surgery is always on an urgent basis and lasts for many hours. Simple, safe and reliable anaesthesia would be necessary and many types of anaesthetic techniques have been advocated. General anaesthesia is effective, but there are problems associated with a prolonged general anaesthesia with an increase in the incidence of hypothermia, accidental intraoperative awareness and a prolonged recovery time. Regional anaesthesia with the use of an effective long-lasting local

Postoperative analgesia following brachial plexus block.

The time from the end of surgery to the administration of the first post-operative analgesic has been measured in 86 patients following brachial plexus block with bupivacaine, lignocaine, nepivacaine or prilocaine. A signficant increase in time occurred with bupivacaine; the combination of regional and general anesthesia significantly increased the time when compared with general anaesthesia in...

Non-invasive blood haemoglobin and plethysmographic variability index during brachial plexus block.

BACKGROUND Plethysmographic measurement of haemoglobin concentration ([Formula: see text]), pleth variability index (PVI), and perfusion index (PI) with the Radical-7 apparatus is growing in popularity. Previous studies have indicated that [Formula: see text] has poor precision, particularly when PI is low. We wanted to study the effects of a sympathetic block on these measurements. METHODS T...

Anesthesiological Considerations in Shoulder Surgery

In 1970, Winnie proposed the brachial plexus block as an alternative and effective anaesthesia technique for shoulder surgery. From that date, several techniques have been developed to approach the brachial plexus: the use of a nerve stimulator and, more recently, the ultrasound guided nerve blockade have made the procedure easier and more effective; the availability of the new drugs demonstrat...

Technical note: the humeral canal approach to the brachial plexus.

Many variations to the axillary approach to the brachial plexus have been described. However, the success rate varies depending on the approach used and on the definition of success. Recent work describes a new approach to regional anaesthesia of the upper limb at the humeral/brachial canal using selective stimulation of the major nerves. This report outlines initial experience with this block,...

Theme: Axillary Brachial Plexus Block Academy of Regional Anaesthesia of India

In this issue, we look at the axillary brachial plexus block and the terminal nerves of the hand. The axillary block is an approach that has maintained its simplicity and effectiveness throughout the years. Most anaesthesiologists will reminiscence this technique being amongst their first experiences in regional anesthesia. With the advent of ultrasound, this block is now more reliable than eve...
